This place is the real deal! The food is authentic and delicious. You have to try the homemade chips and salsa! The wet burrito with pastor and green sauce was out of this world! Very affordable too.

I didn't like it..... I just didn't like the way my food tasted. It was also very fast food like. It's owned by a family from Mexico so either I don't know what's good or they are cutting corners in some way.

This place has very interesting food. I don't know if I'm qualified to say that it's "more authentic" but it tasted very different from your typical Mexican restaurant (i.e. Chelino's). We all ordered a bunch of things to share, and the first thing I noticed was the lack of sauce on everything. It seems like many other Mexican restaurants drench everything in so much sauce you can barely taste the food, but Taco San Pedro uses sauce sparingly letting the food speak for itself. They are moderately pricey for what type of food it is, but overall not too bad. The one thing that would have made it better was a fountain drink machine out front so you could refill your own drink. Eating spicy food without easy access to a refill can be tororous.

Killer carne asada burritos. Very authentic carrot, onion, jalapeño relish. Great sauces as well.

If you're eating Mexican food and think you're eating the real thing, eat here and you will change your mind. Flavorful. Freshly prepared. All on styro plates. The food speaks for itself. I'll drive from the north side any day of the week for this.

this place comes close to authentic Mexican food!! We had carne asada tacos, sopas and flautas. Oh so good and perfect portions with good price point. Good customer service and it was clean. I highly reccomend this place!!

This is the closest thing to real Mexican food I've found in Oklahoma. I'm a California native, and the ubiquity of "queso" out here as "Mexican food" is baffling!! Tacos San Pedro has several kinds of meat, the chicken is a little spicy, but still great. Pastor is tasty, although (and this is very typical) quite greasy. The fish taco is my boyfriend's favorite, and the carnitas were good too. I'm not into cabeza (face muscles from a cow), but if you're adventurous, give it a try. I've also had their sopapillas, enchiladas verdes, and huevos rancheros, which were all great too. If you're expecting the usual crappy Tex-Mex that Oklahoma calls Mexican food, you'll be (if you're into comida autentica) pleasantly surprised! We try to stop here whenever we are in OKC, and sometimes make trips from Norman just to eat there. There's also a freezer in the front with some Mexican frozen treats, too. Popsicles and stuff. A lot of them are made with real fruits and real sugar. I haven't bought them here, but I've had them before and they're good. It's fairly cheap, too! And don't pay attention to the people who say it's in the "ghetto." Just because there are signs in Spanish in the neighborhood doesn't make it "ghetto."

One of the best inside authentic "taco trucks" I've ever been to! Order and pick up your food at the front, plastic silverware, real Mexican taste. Plenty of friendly service and food for your money. Will be going back.

One Word. Delicious! When you walk in and see whole bunch of Hispanic people coming to a Hispanic restaurant, than that's an indication that the place has go to be delicious. My friend loved his food so much that he is willing to drive again to the place, even though it was far ways from where we live! I ordered nachos as I am a vegetarian and loved it. The only down side is that when I asked for queso because I was going to originally order enchiladas, they informed me that they did not have queso. I was a little upset knowing that because what kind of Hispanic place does not have queso!! I do not take away any points though because it was a delicious place! Not too pricey either.. P.S. its kind of in a Ghetto Neighborhood but don't let that deter you from attending this fine eatery as it is worth it! Will be going back for seconds! :-D

Ok, in OKC on a business trip and was needing a Mexican food hit. Since, I'm from Texas, I've had my share of Tex-Mex and true Mexican as well. San Pedro's lived up to its billing, for sure. But if you're expecting 'tex-mex' i.e. ubiquitous fajitas and enchiladas, reset your taste buds. San Pedro's is authentic Mexico City street cuisine. The tacos are good but the burrito is very good. Put their tomatillo (green) sauce on top, very tasty additional flavor but not too spicy. Btw Cabeza is the meat from the head and not the brains (I think). Dont be scared of some of the meats, they still offer beef and chicken :-) !

Once again if your looking for some authentic mexican food not the same old Tex Mex then look no further. Great little place and damn are their flank steak burritos huge and full of flavor! Fresh bold flavors. Not the fanciest place you will go to but I can promise you that you will love it if your not boring and prefer going to Teds every sunday. Check it out its worth your time

This is the first time I used Yelp like it was meant to be used. I was heading to the South side, and hunger was setting in. I came up with some arbitrary rules for trying a new place to eat: - Within driving distance (5 miles) of 73159. Because I'm lazy like that yo. - Accepts credit cards. Because I don't believe in cash yo. - Only one $ (out of four). Because I'm cheap like that yo. The Yelp filter took care of the rest; Tacos San Pedro was the first thing to show up. The (overall) favorable reviews by other Yelpers kind of clinched it. I ordered three tacos to go. One Carnitas, one Chorizo, and one Pollo. They threw in two kinds of salsa (the green one is spicier and I was practically eating that all by itself), and pickled vegetables (carrots, green peppers, onions, etc.). It cost me $6.00ish (sans tip). Great customer service, but the food took a while. This is to be expected I suppose, because there was never a lull the entire time I was there; patrons kept streaming in one after another. The Pollo (chicken) was good. The Chorizo (ground up sausage; my Mexican friend swears that it's actually leftover crap parts of different animals) was meh. The Carnitas (pork) was amazing. Pour on some of the delicious green salsa, toss some of the pickled vegetables into the mix, and dig in like your life depends on it. My biggest regret was that I ordered three tacos when two would have easily satisfied me. Three pushed me over the edge. But that's my fault; I was expecting small, rinky dink tacos à la Big Truck Tacos. There are at least two Taquerías in OKC that are (imho) better than this one (I can't remember how to get to either, and I've been trying to figure out the names for a year now) but the overall rating of this place is well deserved. Well done, Yelpers. Well done.

This is my favorite REAL Mexican food in OKC. I've been all over Mexico and this is aaalllmmooosssttt as good. These are the tacos you'd get in the taco stands, that you might want to stay away from sometimes if you're ever in Mexico. This place is so cheap that you could buy a huge meal for 2 people for well under $20. There are a lot of great Mexican food places around this area, but they have the best tasting tacos in my opinion. The enchiladas are also very good. Order chips and salsa with your meal. The red and salsa verde are very tasty. I love the rice and beans...I love EVERYTHING here! And of course my favorite....the Mexican coke. It's so hard to find Mexican cokes in Oklahoma, you have to go to South side OKC to find them. I know this area is pretty sketchy and they've had crime in this area, but go during the day. Definitely worth visiting, if not, you're missing out!

  • Joseph F.

Another one of my OKC favorites! Menudo is amazing, burrritos are huge, cheap and delicious, the nachos! fageddaboudit! The only place I have ever been that actually puts cotija (dried-crumbly, slightly salty mexican cheese) in lieu of a jack or quesadilla cheese; that with freshly cooked chips, refried beans guacamole and the meat of your choice, you're good to go. Cabesa, by the way is not the brains, it's the stewed head of the cow containing all the tender, fatty cheek and jaw meat. If they still have it, brains are called "cesos" which have virtually no flavor and mimic the texture of silken tofu, not my cup.

If you like authentic Mexican food, this is the place for you. The menu is full of brain, tongue, and intestines and the staff all speak primarily Spanish. Nothing is drenched in Velveeta here. Prices are very affordable and you're provided with quite the quantity of food. While I haven't tried the cow or pig based items, I hear they're absolutely amazing, among the best in the area. I'm docking one star because when you try to order non-brain/tongue/tripe items, the quality can be spotty. Sometimes, I have a satisfying, great meal and other times, I end up with something tasting so rancid that I won't eat it but I'm still giving them four stars because if you stick with what they do best, you'll have a fantastic, inexpensive lunch or dinner.

This place has some pretty decent, authentic Mexican tacos. You can even get Lengua (beef tongue) and Cabeza (cow brain) tacos. The neighborhood is a little old and run down but it's worth a visit if you like good tacos. I really liked their Al Pastor. Every place I try an Al Pastor taco seems to have a slightly different flavor, and this is one of the better ones.

For the record, YES, Tacos San Pedro serves cow brains! and accepts credit cards (see taco photos). As one of the other reviewers already pointed out, it is called "cesos" in Spanish, and it is similar in taste to tofu (no flavor) and similar in texture to scrambled eggs. Before trying the cow brains I assumed it would have at least some kind of flavor and be chewy, and it was neither. Imagine eating nothing... that's what eating cow brains is like :) So I can't really recommend eating the cow brain tacos, other than for pure bragging rights. Overall Tacos San Pedro was a pretty good taqueria. The chips were authentic style and both the red and green salsa's were good. I tried the lengua taco (tongue), pescado taco (fish), carne asada taco (beef), cesos taco (brains) ( yelp.com/biz_photos/kDJA… ), and a chorizo tostada (sausage). Next time I go I will avoid the fish tacos, they had a strong "fishy" smell and I don't really prefer the way the fish was prepared (in a sauce with bell peppers and onions). One thing I liked about this restaurant was that they didn't go too heavy on the oil when cooking the meats. I really appreciate that. It's nice to be able to eat your chorizo tostada without having that red-liquid-fat drip from your hand all the way down to your elbow. Tacos San Pedro definitely does the chorizo the right way! This place even has a licuado bar serving fresh fruit/milk smoothies. Sadly I did not get to try one, because the licuado bar is totally shut down during the colder seasons. So you'll have to go elsewhere if you're in the mood for a licuado, unless its summer time? Although they do sell fruit popsicles for only $1 year round, and those are pretty dang good. They don't serve beer :( But they have a diet drink I've never heard of before... apparently there's a soft drink called "diet cock"? (ha ha! no joke! yelp.com/biz_photos/kDJA… ). Despite the graffiti on the sign outside, this restaurant is actually pretty nice inside (even has 2 flat screen tv's). It is very clean and the staff is very helpful with any questions you might have about the menu (i.e. cow brains). Not the best taqueria, but pretty good.

I had some authentic mexican food in Austin lately, of course never been in Mexico i can only trust someone when i was told it was authentic, so my standard of authenticity go with what i had in Austin. Thanks to the fellow Yelpers i found this place, and had already visited twice. The tacos are good, my favourite is fish and chicken. Lunch crowd is big and food can take a while to get to you, but trust me this place is worth it. You order your food at the counter and get your food when your number is called out. The price is compatible to most Mexican restaurant in OK. So far the best tacos i have in OK. Menudo is only served during weekend.

This is real deal Mexican food. The staff are always courteous and the food fresh and delicious. I like the nachos and the tacos best. My kids prefer a quesadilla. Either way we are pleased to eat here. This is not Tex- Mex but authentic Mexican food at its finest. Give it a try and I know you will be back!

Well done, Yelpers! You were certainly right about this one. Mr K and I finally checked this out on Saturday night after a busy day of this and that. I was hungry for Mexican, but definitely wanted to try something new. So we ended up here, after the short little highway drive to the south side. We're both enchilada people, so K got the green with beef and I got the red with chicken. I absolutely loved mine, but I actually think his had more flavor. I also loved their chips and salsa. I don't think I want to know how much frying it takes to get those chips just right, so please don't anyone tell me! We will definitely be back as I intend to work my way through this menu. It was so good, I didn't even mind that I couldn't have a beer.

I remember visiting this place when it first opened. The menu was entirely in Spanish and I needed help ordering and I wasn't sure what to get. Glad I took that first step! You can't get Mexican food that's more authentic then this. The burritos are incredible! No ground beef here. Just good quality beef as are all their ingredients. If you want authentic Mexican food in a laid back atmosphere, this is the place for you!

My friends and I were wanting some mexican street tacos. My sister was raving about how wonderful this place is. We decided to drive on by after work and get some tacos. We were pretty disappointed. They wanted to try the lengua tacos and felt it was very chunky and not tasty meat. I got carne asada which seemed to have a very gamey taste in the meet. Also, I ordered the tostado which was pretty good! I wasn't too woo'd by their sour cream, but love the crunchiness w/ some veggies on top. I would say our group loved the salsa, both green and regular salsa. It tasted very fresh. On a good note, the size of tacos was big compared to what you're use to.

Omg omg I love street tacos!!! I Usually get them from a street truck out of state but this spot was a small authentic Mexican resturant. Nothing fancy but the best cheapest street tacos I ever ate. OMG and the fresh juice was delicious too. The cantaloupe rice juice was so Yummm. I ate here twice while I was in oklahoma :)

DO not go to this restaurant. Do not tell your friends. DO no do anything to cause this place to increase in OKC's collective restaurant awareness. You'd be a fool to do so, cuz you need it for yourself. Just about the best Mexican food in the city for under $10/plate. Blows Chelino's and its ilk out of the freaking water. Wet burrito with pastor was the truth. The absolute truth. And it was like 6 bucks, which is crazy. Big enough for two people to split. Clean, good service. just great food. About a dozen of us went for lunch on a Wed and everyone was happy. i will start taking my family here from Norman, but I won't TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT. I might make them wear pillowcases on their heads so they don't know how to get there. Love this place. Run, don't walk.

Was starving for some carne asada tacoes and chips and salsa, this place hit the spot but had some flaws. The biggest flaw was most of the chips were under cooked and chewy, but the chips that were cooked right were amazing! The salsa had good flavor but it was a typical watery tomato based salsa you can get anywhere. The tacoes had good flavor and we're big for the price(1.80 a piece). I will be back im sure but was pretty disappointed especially after reading the reviews.

Definitely authentic mexican food! I love their tacos especially the fish and marinated pork. I also tried their torta, which you can put anything on it. Their pickled veggies are always a great compliment to their dishes. Everything tasted fresh. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody.

I really like authentic mexican food and thought this place would be good. Unfortunately the pork taco and beef burrito had almost as much hard gristle chucks as they had meat. Really hard to eat when each bite had a hard chuck of bony gristle. The sauces were authentic but for eight dollars plus for a taco and burrito not impressed. Really inedible.

I'm never in this neck of the woods, but happened to be last weekend while volunteering for a mayoral campaign and found Tacos San Pedro on yelp. The restaurant is counter service so you order at the front and wait for your number to be called. My friend and I split a veggie huarache, tostada and gordita as well as chips and salsa. The three main parts of the meal were basically all the same ingredients made up differently but they were all delicious and incredibly fresh! I loved that they had so many vegetarian options because I honestly didn't think they would have any. The salsa was absolutely delicious and their homemade chips were good too. I really liked all the extra sauces that you could help yourself to as well. The food at Tacos San Pedro is incredibly fresh and seems pretty authentic. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again.

One of the best inside authentic "taco trucks" I've ever been to! Order and pick up your food at the front, plastic silverware, real Mexican taste. Plenty of friendly service and food for your money. Will be going back.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
